The NEW DVC Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground!

Posted:  Resorts

I’ll be honest, when I was a girl scout as a child, I used to pretend I was sick to get out of going camping. I know, I know… but sleeping on the ground and dealing with bugs in a crowded tent has never been my idea of a good time. A luxurious cabin full of comforts, however? Now we’re talking!

A wooden sign that reads "WELCOME TO FORT WILDERNESS" is located under a large tree with hanging moss. The sign is surrounded by greenery, including trees and shrubs, and there is a paved path leading up to it.

At the brand-new DVC Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, Disney has perfectly combined modern luxury with the frontier spirit! These unique accommodations are perfect for city slickers like me who love the beauty of the great outdoors but are looking for somewhere deluxe to rest their head at night. In fact, I’ve got a stay booked soon myself, and am super excited to check out a Cabin later this fall!

A blue cabin with a wooden deck and stairs. The cabin has large windows and a modern design. There is a grill on the ground below the deck, and the cabin is surrounded by trees.

A kitchen and dining area in a cabin. The kitchen features white cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and a wooden countertop. A large dining table with chairs is located in the center of the room.

A living room area in a cabin with a wood-paneled ceiling and a large, folding bed with a vintage poster above it. There is a couch with pillows, a coffee table, and a colorful rug on the floor.

Set amid 750 acres of a forest full of cypress and pine trees, the gorgeous One Bedroom Cabins have everything you need in a cozy home away from home! They can sleep up to 6 guests (plus an infant under age 3), with one queen size bed and a bunk bed in the bedroom and a pull-down queen size bed in the living room area. You’ve also got a full bathroom, of course, and a full kitchen. To me, they look like cute tiny homes settled in a picturesque landscape! While inspired by the American frontier of days gone by, there’s definitely no “roughing it” when staying here!

Bunk beds in the bedroom featuring a lower bunk and two upper bunks. The bunk bed has a wooden frame and is decorated with woodsy artwork.

A bathroom with a white toilet, a wooden vanity with a white countertop, and a large mirror. The walls are painted yellow with a wood accent, and the ceiling is wood-paneled.

Another element that sets the Cabins apart from other DVC accommodations is that they are dog-friendly! All DVC resorts will allow service animals, yet here, up to 2 pet dogs per room are welcome. Of course, Disney does have specific policies when it comes to furry friends joining their family for a stay, such as pups not being permitted at the pool or on the Cabin furniture for example. Restrictions and fees may apply, yet more information can easily be found on Disney’s website if you’re planning a stay and hoping to bring your doggo along. Our David’s team is also always happy to help with any questions you might have before you pack up your pooch for a vacay.

Even though I’ve been to Walt Disney World countless times, I have to admit that I haven’t spent much time at Fort Wilderness, so in addition to seeing the Cabins in person, I’m also really excited to explore the different shopping, dining, and more of the activities the resort has to offer!

A wooden building with a large porch and a sign that says "PIONEER HALL". The building has a rustic appearance with exposed logs and a pitched roof. This is where Hoop-Dee-Doo takes place.

When it comes to down-home, hearty, country cookin’, Fort Wilderness is probably best known for the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. This zany dinner show is full of music, comedy, dancing and is a fan-favorite for many of my fellow team members! I haven’t had the chance to experience it yet myself, but the rootin’ tootin’ tales I’ve heard about the fried chicken alone have put it on my wish list! There’s also BBQ ribs, sides, salad, and strawberry shortcake for dessert!

Two hands holding small washboard-shaped magnets in front of a wooden sign that reads "SETTLEMENT TRADING POST." The washboards have the words "HOOP DEE DOO REVUE" written on them.

Trail’s End Restaurant offers quick service options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the menu is full of well-loved staples such as Mickey waffles, skillets, pizza, burgers, sweet treats, and more.

The Chuck Wagon food truck also offers quick snacks such as hot dogs, Mickey-shaped pretzels and ice cream bars, and is also where you can purchase a s’mores kit if a visit to the campfire is in your plans. If you feel your tummy growling while you’re at the pool, the Meadow Snack Bar offers sandwiches, salads, and snacks that are sure to hit the spot.

Speaking of being poolside, let’s talk about the two pools found at this resort! The feature pool at Fort Wilderness is the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool, which has a fort-themed water play area for little ones, a whirlpool spa for the grownups, and a 67-foot-long corkscrew water slide for those who love to make a splash! There’s also the Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool, which is the leisure pool on the grounds. One thing to keep in mind at Fort Wilderness is that towels aren’t supplied at the pools, so you’ll want to be sure to bring some from your room!

One of the activities I’m most looking forward to is Chip ‘N’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long! This event is typically held two evenings a week at the Campground Theater, and guests can join Chip ‘n’ Dale for roasted marshmallows and fun for the whole family. The Campground Theater is also where you’ll find Movies Under the Stars each evening, another of my favorite resort activities!

A wooden sign with a blue background and white lettering announcing "TONIGHT! Chip 'n Dale's CAMPFIRE SING-A-LONG PRESENTED BY OFF!" The sign is surrounded by trees and greenery.

A large, wooden entranceway to Tri-Circle D Ranch. The entrance has a rustic appearance with exposed beams and a pitched roof.

Fort Wilderness is also home to some unique activities, such as the Fort Wilderness Archery Experience, where guests ages 7 and up can learn and practice their bow and arrow skills in a small 75-minute guided class.

One of the coolest features this resort has to boast has got to be the Tri-Circle-D Ranch! It’s home to more than 90 different breeds of horses, including Cinderella’s Ponies! You can stroll the stables to visit the animals and see some very cool memorabilia, and for a small fee, kiddos can even go on a pony ride! Other activities also on my wish list at Fort Wilderness are to take a Horse Drawn Carriage Excursion or Wagon Ride around the scenic pathways of the resort. How dreamy and fun would that be?!

A wooden sign with a lamppost attached to it advertising horse-drawn excursions. The sign lists the available activities as carriage rides and wagon rides, along with prices for adults and children.

The fun doesn’t stop there though, as there are tons of other sports, playgrounds, bike rentals, kayak rentals, poolside games, canoe rentals, fishing, and more, to keep your stay full of fun!

A wooden building labeled "BIKE BARN RECREATIONAL RENTALS" with a shaded patio area featuring picnic tables.

With the grounds being so large, many guests staying at Fort Wilderness choose to rent an electric golf cart to help them get around! Making reservations in advance is highly recommended, and guests must be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license to rent a golf cart. The golf carts do have headlights, so they can be used at night, and while those aged 16 and up with a license can operate the vehicles, it’s important to note that you must carry a valid license with you at all times while driving the golf carts around the resort.

A rusty red golf cart with a blue stripe and the words "LIL MATER" and "Rusty Springs" painted on the side. The cart is parked in a grassy area with trees in the background and a wooden fence in the foreground.

A green cabin with a wooden deck and ramp. There is a grill on the ground below the deck, and a patio umbrella can be seen on the deck.

As you can see, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has a TON of offerings for guests to enjoy, and even though I said what I said about my stance on camping, I cannot wait to check out the newest DVC digs and enjoy some time in the great outdoors! I’ll be sure to report back after my stay this fall and let you know what can’t be missed!
