My Unfiltered Ranking of DVC Resorts at Walt Disney World

Posted:  DVC Rentals Resorts

Working for David’s Vacation Club Rentals means I’ve had the chance to get to know the DVC resorts at Walt Disney World like the back of my hand. I’ve even been lucky enough to visit these resorts, explore them, and stay at some, too!

Of course, every Disney fan has their own favorite resort (which makes this community fun!), but I wanted to share my personal rankings—from the ones I enjoy just a bit less to my absolute favorite resorts! So grab a little treat, sit tight, and enjoy this deep dive into my unfiltered rankings of the DVC resorts at Walt Disney World.

  1. Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Okay, don’t yell at me – the close proximity to Magic Kingdom and the views from this resort are spectacular. However, this is my least favorite DVC resort and lands at the bottom of my list.

The exterior of Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is seen under a hazy blue sky. To the right, a portion of the Sky Way Bridge attaching Bay Lake Tower to the Contemporary Resort is also visible.

Here’s the thing; when I’m on a Disney vacation, I want a resort that delivers convenience and comfort. I love to grab my morning iced coffee and Mickey Waffles without embarking on too long of a stroll. Sure, the Sky Way Bridge to Disney’s Contemporary resort is easy to access. It brings you to some solid dining options, AND the monorail is right there, but this resort just does not give me the Disney feels I’m looking for.

A brightly-colored Mary Blair-inspired mural of Bay Lake Tower, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and the monorail along Bay Lake is seen in a refurbished Studio above the sofa.

Now, with the new room refurbishments rolling out, there is potential for a change because they are absolutely gorgeous. But for now? This resort is at the bottom of my list.

  1. Disney’s Old Key West Resort

While I know this was the original DVC resort and a fan fave among many, this is also close to the bottom.

The exterior of the Hospitality House area at Disney’s Old Key West Resort is seen from across the water under a sunny sky. Olivia’s Café and the water taxi dock are seen, as well as outdoor restaurant seating.

I do think this resort is one of the best for immersion because it really feels like you’re in Key West, Florida! Not to mention, these Villas are the biggest in terms of square footage, so they’re super roomy!

2 queen beds are seen in a Studio at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. The room is decorated with pastel walls, beachy Disney artwork, and dark brown wood and carpet.

While these are the biggest rooms, they do, however, desperately need a refresh. I also think that this resort is best for long-term stays, as these rooms are meant to feel like vacation homes. While I think Disney pulls that off effortlessly, once again, I don’t want to trek a long way to get food and drink. Some rooms are honestly quite far away from Hospitality House, so I am left still craving a bit of convenience at this resort.

  1. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas

LISTEN – I will gladly hype up this resort because how amazing is it that I can drink a coffee in the morning while watching giraffes from my balcony?!

The exterior balconies overlooking the Savanna are seen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas Jambo House under a bright, blue sky.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas is pure magic in theming; you’re not just staying at a Disney resort, you’re basically transported to an African Savanna. Plus, the Indian-style bread service at Sanaa alone deserves endless praise. The pools at this resort are also some of the best on property, great for family fun and soaking in those vacation vibes. That said, I do have to call out one of the downsides that does bear weight for me; location.

After a full park day, I am essentially looking for a teleportation device to transport me to my bed and unfortunately, this resort is a bit further from the parks. So, while that lowers my ranking a bit, the Animal Kingdom Villas still gets a lot of praise from me.

  1. The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

I KNOW! This seems criminally low, but hear me out.

A bronze Victorian-inspired fountain sits outside at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa under a blue sky. Behind it is a green lawn landscaped with red flowers, and the iconic white and red building exterior of the resort is seen in the background.

The Grand Floridian is the height of luxury at Disney, and this is a big bucket list resort for many people (including me!). The Resort Studios here speak to my Mary Poppins-loving heart and are “practically perfect in every way.” Plus, I would absolutely love to spend a night on the beaches at this resort, watching the fireworks. There’s also loads of shopping and dining here; it basically makes me think I’m at the Plaza in New York… if only I had the bank account to match!

That being said, while my heart is screaming, “Treat yourself!” my budget is trying to avoid looking at the receipts at the end of the trip from all my spending. The Grand Floridian checks every box – convenience, dining, and lots of pixie dust. Still, it definitely is a splurge for some Disney lovers out there. I’m hoping that one day I’ll get to stay at this gorgeous resort, but for now, I’ll schedule a dining reservation and pretend!

  1. Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows and the new Island Tower

Okay, before you pull out the pitchforks, remember that this is a journey and just my opinion! Don’t worry, this resort still gets a lot of love from me!

The dark brown exterior of the Great Ceremonial House at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows is seen under a sunny blue sky. There are guests enjoying dining and activities, as the resort landscaping around the building boasts lush green trees and tropical flowers.

I think this resort absolutely transports you to the Polynesian Isles! Plus, you’re telling me I have easy access to a Dole Whip whenever I want? Say less, take my money! I also think some of the dining here is top-notch! ‘Ohana is one of my favorite breakfast spots on property, and the Cast Members are so friendly and accommodating at this resort. We also cannot forget the eclectic treasure of Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, which is still on my Disney “Must-Do” list. I need that chaotic, fun-loving tiki room in my life!

A wooden tiki statue with a pink and yellow lei is seen atop a display with some rocks, green foliage, and flowers in the main lobby of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

Real talk, though; this resort is definitely still a bit of a splurge for the Disney-loving adventurer in your life, much like the Grand Floridian. And while I can enjoy the lively energy and atmosphere, sometimes, the hustle and bustle can be A LOT after a busy Disney day. Sometimes, a girl just needs a low-key vibe and a quiet moment with her late-night Mickey Bar.

  1. The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

When some people hear “wilderness,” they immediately envision bugs, mud, and being totally cut off from the luxuries of everyday life. But, as someone who enjoyed fun-filled camping in her youth, this resort has my seal of approval.

The brown and wood exterior of a One Bedroom Cabin at Disney’s Fort Wilderness. There is a paved driveway and grill in front, and other cabins and trees can be seen in the background.

The DVC Cabins at Fort Wilderness are a fun offering and give you a quiet, cozy little space perfect for a quaint retreat. This resort is scenic, with lots of things to do in every neck of the woods. Pony rides, canoeing, archery, it’s got it all! It’s like a Disney summer camp! And, I will say this with my full chest; Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at Pioneer Hall is one of the best dining experiences on the property and is one of my core Disney memories.

The frontier-inspired wooden exterior of Pioneer Hall at Disney’s Fort Wilderness is seen. There is a small sign on the front advertising the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue dinner show.

The only downside of this resort? It’s BIG. I mean, it makes sense because campsites need space, but just know you might be a bit of a trek away from the nearest amenities or transportation. All in all, it may not be for everyone, but if you love a peaceful retreat with a bit of Disney Magic, you’ll love this resort.

  1. Disney’s Beach Club Villas

Confession time: I used to think this resort was a little overrated. But upon a second glance, it is actually really nice, and I am into it!

The blue and white exterior of Disney’s Beach Club Villas is seen at dawn. In front of the resort are some pink, purple, and yellow flowers and white benches.

Disney’s Beach Club Villas is a highly-requested resort, and now I totally see why! It’s gorgeous, with pastel-colored buildings that are so calming and really make you feel like you’re at a seaside beach resort. Plus, the pool is a MAJOR draw; Stormalong Bay is essentially a mini waterpark! (As a heads up, Stormalong Bay is currently closed for refurbishment but is expected to re-open later this summer). And the food? It’s amazing! Beaches & Cream Soda Shop is a great spot for lunch, and it’s still on my bucket list to conquer the Kitchen Sink with my friends. You also CANNOT beat the location!

Stormalong Bay pool at Disney’s Beach Club Villas is seen under a sunny sky. The sand at the bottom of the pool is visible, as lifeguards watch over things from under red umbrellas.

This resort has the convenience, vibes, and amenities I look for in a DVC stay. The only downside? It’s a hot commodity! The Beach Club Villas has one of the smallest room inventories through DVC, so it books up FAST, but I’m still putting it in my top 5!

  1. Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

If this resort has no fans, it means I’ve crossed over to the dark side. I will ALWAYS be the loudest hype woman for Saratoga because this resort is an underrated gem!

A pastel blue resort building with the equestrian logo and words “Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort” in taupe lettering is seen under a pink and purple sunset, surrounded by lush green trees.

I have stayed at Saratoga Springs twice now, and honestly, I would go back in a heartbeat. This resort is bigger than others, but it’s still totally walkable and very scenic! Imagine a charming vacation village in upstate New York with an elegant equestrian twist! The food here may not be extravagant, but it is solid! I especially love the pizza from the Artist’s Palette as a late-night snack. And one of the best features of this resort? You’re literally right next door to Disney Springs. There are so many more amazing dining and shopping options just a quick jaunt away, so the location cannot be beaten.

The green and pink pastel buildings, walkways, and green landscaping of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are seen from a villa balcony under a blue sky. In the distance across the water you can see some of Disney Springs.

Yes, this resort only offers bus transportation to the theme parks, BUT because it is so spread out, the buses are usually not crowded. I have never felt squished like a sardine, especially after a long day of fun. Also, the lobby smells SO GOOD!

  1. Disney’s Riviera Resort

This resort oozes European elegance. It makes me feel like I’ve stepped into a five-star hotel on the French Riviera with a croissant in one hand and a fancy iced coffee in the other. This one is firmly in my top three, no questions asked.

The exterior of Disney’s Riviera Resort is seen under a bright, blue sky. In the foreground there is waterside seating with wrought iron tables and blue umbrellas. The Skyliner station can also be seen in the background.

Disney’s Riviera Resort has everything: glam, stunning design, convenience, and great food. First off, the rooms at this resort are GORGEOUS! The dining here also offers a European tour of flavors, with stops in France, Greece, and even Italy! There are two great pools: one for fun and one for chill-out mode. You can do it all or do nothing, which is the best of both worlds in my book.

A mostly purple mosaic mural of Rapunzel’s tower, castle, and floating lanterns surrounds a fountain in the tunnel leading from Disney’s Riviera Resort to the Skyliner station on the property.

You’re also directly on the Skyliner, which I think is one of the best transportation options at Disney World. You’re just a quick gondola flight away from Hollywood Studios and EPCOT!

Sure, this resort is still a bit of a splurge, but for a girl’s trip, a birthday celebration, or a treat-yourself moment, I think it is 100% worth it for the luxury experience with a sprinkle of Disney Magic!

  1. Disney’s BoardWalk Villas

I can see it now; the warm glow of Edison bulbs hanging overhead, the sound of music and laughter in the air, and a touch of vintage charm around every corner!

The sun rises over Disney’s BoardWalk Villas as seen from across Crescent Lake. Warmly lit bulbs are strung along the colorful buildings and restaurants along the BoardWalk.

Disney’s BoardWalk Villas has immersive theming in the best way possible. It’s perfect for families, best friends, couples—anyone looking for some razzle-dazzle with their stay. This resort offers loads of different food offerings, from quick bites to downright delicious meals. The BoardWalk is bursting with flair!

The Mickey and friends decorated Keister Coaster waterslide at the Luna Park Pool at Disney’s BoardWalk Villas is seen under a sunny, blue sky.

If you’re planning a resort day during your Disney vacation, this resort is the place to have it! It’s fun, has great energy, and loads of entertainment. You can lounge by the Luna Park Pool, then hit the BoardWalk for evening fun. Like all fan favorites, this resort is in high demand, so if it is on your list (as it should be), book early and thank yourself later!

  1. Copper Creek Villas & Cabins and Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge!

WE MADE IT TO NUMBER 1!!! This choice isn’t up for debate. It’s a fact. This is the best DVC Resort at Walt Disney World. Full Stop. No notes.

The dark brown resort building exterior of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is sunny under a blue sky. In front of the building is a brown rock façade with a small waterfall, and green plants with small orange wildflowers.

From the moment you step into that jaw-droppingly gorgeous lobby, you’re transported to the Pacific Northwest. I could spend hours curled up with a coffee, people-watching, or reading a book, just gazing around the magnificent lobby. There are so many little design details; just when you think you’ve seen it all, you notice something new! This resort gives National Parks vibes in the best way.

Dark wooden rocking chairs sit in front of the tall stone fireplace in the lobby of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The log cabin-style wooden railings of the floors above are also visible.

And don’t even get me started on the food. There’s something for everyone with delicious bites and unbeatable ambiance (and some crazy shenanigans at Whispering Canyon, too). It’s just an oasis away from the parks. It’s a gorgeous scenic forest by day and a quiet woodsy wonderland by night. Also, you’re just a leisurely boat ride away from Magic Kingdom – feel that lovely breeze and take in the gorgeous scenery around you as you glide over the water! This resort at Christmas, the best time of year, is just extra magical, too. I’m tearing up just thinking about it!

A tall Christmas tree and evergreen garland decorated with red and gold ornaments and white lights is seen in the lobby of the Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

The DVC options at Wilderness Lodge are a whole experience! It’s absolutely deserving of that Number 1 spot, and I will not hear anything different.

A rusty old train car holds grey boulders on the outdoor grounds at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The train car is surrounded by green foliage and pink flowers, along with a topiary of Mickey Mouse holding a white sign that reads “Disney Vacation Club” on it.
