A Look at a Studio at Disney’s Old Key West

“Welcome home!” Don’t you just love hearing that when you arrive at a Disney resort? The practice of greeting Guests with an enthusiastic welcome home began at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. Old Key West was the very first Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resort, opening in December of 1991.

It does feel a bit like home when you walk up to the door of your room at this resort. There’s no long hallway of doors to pass through on the way to your room.

Being the first, you will notice some differences here from the other DVC resorts, the most notable being room size. Old Key West has the most spacious rooms of all the Disney Vacation Club resorts at Walt Disney World. At a full 390 square feet, the studios have lots of room to spread out. In 2010 Disney comleted a reburbishment of the rooms at Old Key West. This is the first time I’ve stayed in the newly decorated rooms and I really liked the updated palette. It used to be very peachy (my least favorite color) but now it is done in a tasteful mix of blue (my favorite color) and sand.

Another difference here is that the studios have two queen beds instead of the one queen bed/sofa bed combo found in most of the DVC studios.

There is a small table with two chairs between the patio doors and the lock-off to the one-bedroom villa next door.

The patio is sweet with the little Mickey head cutouts in the railing. Out here, there is a small side table and two patio chairs. These can be brought inside and used as extra seating around the dining table if needed.

This was the view from my patio. Old Key West has a very tropical feel, which I love.

The window coverings on the patio are Roman shades which I found to be a annoying to raise and close, but I did think they looked sharp.

Between the main living space and the bathroom is the kitchenette and closet.

The kitchenette is equiped the same as all the DVC studios. There is a microwave, toaster, coffee maker and small fridge. You’ll also find a can opener and corkscrew.

In the studios you get a paper dishes, plastic silverware, ceramic cups, and glass glasses – they’ve got it all covered!

Across from the kitchenette is the closet.

From there, we move into the bathroom. Here you see the older color scheme of peach and white.

My stay at Old Key West was very nice. I like these rooms quite a bit, especially the space. It’s a laid back, comfy resort with a real community feel. If you like a relaxing home-like atmosphere, give Old Key West a try on your next visit.
