My Personal Overrated and Underrated Disney Rollercoaster

Posted:  Foods Parks Resorts

If you are a Disney fan and have been to Walt Disney World a few times, you will undoubtedly have an opinion on what might be a little overrated or underrated.

Cinderella Castle is seen from the side under a blue sky at Magic Kingdom. The castle’s reflection is seen in the stream of water leading to it as guests use the walkway on the left side.

Everyone has favorites when it comes to resorts, souvenirs, snacks, parks, and rides, and I have some personal takeaways from my past Disney trips, too! Let’s get into my top five overrated vs underrated takeaways!

#1: Resorts:

Now, if you are going to stay anywhere in WDW, where should it be? I love to think about which park I want to be closest to or what type of transportation methods are available to me on the property. For these reasons, the most underrated place to stay, in my opinion, is Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. It’s within walking distance to Magic Kingdom, has access to the monorail, its own security screening areas, STUNNING views, and is wrapping up a fresh refurbishment touchup (expected to be completed in September 2025.)

A colorful mural of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Bay Lake Tower, the monorail, and Bay Lake is seen above the beige sofa in a recently refurbished DVC Studio at Bay Lake Tower.

In my opinion, Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, specifically the new Island Tower, is the most overrated DVC resort. I haven’t stayed here yet, but I recently visited the property, and I will say that it is gorgeous. However, the pool area is smaller than I expected, so I was a bit underwhelmed by that.

The brown and yellow exterior of the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows is seen under a bright, blue sky. There is a green palm tree in front and guests sit on the outdoor seating.

#2: Souvenirs:

For me, the most underrated Disney souvenir is an oversized hoodie. It doesn’t matter which one you like; get it a little oversized, and BAM, it is perfect! I love a spirit jersey, too, don’t get me wrong, but a cozy Disney hoodie is everything!

A beige, oversized, Walt Disney World souvenir hoodie is laid out on a white bedcover. The left arm has grey lettering reading “Walt” down it, the front of the hoodie has a grey “D” on it, and the right arm has grey lettering reading “World” down it.

I think one of the most overrated Disney souvenirs is Mickey/Minnie Ears. I like them and have purchased a couple of pairs myself, but when I am at Disney, I will either forget to wear them or wear them for just a little bit before I end up taking them off and putting them in my bag. Yes, the ears are adorable, but more of an “I like them, but I don’t need them” type of relationship for me.

3 pairs on Disney Minnie Ears are laid out on a white bedcover. The top pair of ears are Animal Kingdom-themed with red, green, and orange patterns. The next ears down are Halloween-themed with pumpkins, skulls, and a sequined orange bow. The bottom ears are sequined and black with white tropical flowers on one side.

#3: Food:

I will be clear when I give my next hot takes: I am a Disney foodie, and this is where I feel like if I have any expertise, it will come in. If you haven’t been to Casey’s Corner yet, go and get not one but TWO orders of the Mini Corn Dogs (affectionately known as corn dog nuggets by the Disney community), along with a Frozen Mint Julep Lemonade. Go early before the fireworks, grab a nice spot to sit and enjoy, and I rest my case with that.

The white and yellow exterior of Casey’s Corner on Main Street U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom is seen under a sunny sky. There is a red C-shaped sign with blue writing reading the eatery’s name.

Now, to me, the most overrated snack at WDW is a Dole Whip. I know, I know, you are probably shocked! I am just not a fan of the melting pineapple soft-serve. I have had it, and it was refreshing enough on a hot day. However, it just has a lot of hype with not much to back it up, in my opinion.

#4: Theme Parks:

When you go to Walt Disney World, you are likely to visit at least one park during your stay, and really, they are all great in their own ways. However, if we must get into it, EPCOT is underrated to me. It is such a cool park to visit!

The silver ball of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT is seen under a blue sky. There is a tree with white blossoms in front, as flags wave in the breeze in the distance.

There is lots to do and enjoy for not just adults but children as well. There are tons of places for guests to cool off and lots of spots to grab a delicious bite to eat or drink and hydrate yourself! Luminous: The Symphony of Us is a great show, and of course, the park is always extra special during one of its festivals!

Pink, purple, and gold fireworks, water fountains, and lighting effects fill the sky over World Showcase Lagoon during Luminous: The Symphony of Us at EPCOT.

The most overrated park to me is Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I love the animals, and on my last visit to Disney, I got to experience many of the walking trails throughout this park.

A wooden sign reading “Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail” with drawings of gorillas, okapi, and a hippo sits above the entry way into the walking trail attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.

However, this park doesn’t seem to have as much that interests me. The Kilimanjaro Safaris and Avatar Flight of Passage attractions are a lot of fun, but all in all, I’m excited to see what this park will have to offer in the future as some spaces prepare for reimagining!

3 giraffes are seen on the roaming through the foliage on the savanna during a ride on Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park under a sunny, blue sky.

#5: Rides:

Finally, for the fun part, a little hot take on some Disney rides!

Cinderella Castle is lit up with blue and pink lights under a clear night’s sky at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

There are so many different types of rides at Disney and comparing them to one another simply wouldn’t be fair. So, to stay in a similar category, we will stick with my most overrated and underrated categories, specifically at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, as it features the most attractions.

The grey and red brick Main Street U.S.A. station of the Walt Disney World Railroad is seen overlooking the entry into Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World under a blue sky.

For me, the most underrated ride at Magic Kingdom would be The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I say this because, for the longest time, I didn’t even know it existed, and once I rode it, I thought it was SO cute! A few parts of the ride may surprise you if you’ve never experienced it before, but I laughed a lot and really enjoyed it.

A wooden sign hanging from a large tree reads “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” in red lettering, leading to the entrance to the attraction in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom.

Now, the most overrated ride at Magic Kingdom to me is the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It is fun, however, the wait times can get pretty long and the coaster itself just doesn’t seem to get my excitement going.

A train car full of guests speeds over the wood and steel tracks through the brown rocks of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train under a blue sky full of fluffy white clouds.

I love all things Disney, but over the years, as I take more and more trips to WDW, I’ve learned more and more about what I can skip over and what I find truly magical! 😉

Guests watch as purple, pink, green, red, and blue fireworks burst in the sky over Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom. Cinderella Castle can be seen in the distance with Prince Charming Regal Carrousel lit up on the right.
