Is renting Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points worth it?

Posted:  DVC Rentals Tips

This is a question we get a lot, and the simple answer is: yes!

Renting DVC points does save you money compared to booking the exact same room directly with Disney. We have helped thousands of guests save money on their dream Disney Vacation Club resort stays!

The white and red exterior of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is seen from across the Seven Seas Lagoon under a blue sky.

The complicated answer, however, is: it depends.

It really depends on what is most important to you and your party. The savings are the most obvious reason to rent points; however, the size of the room, the resort’s theming, or its location may be factors to consider.

While you can usually find a Disney resort reservation for a lower price, it won’t likely be in the same resort tier. Disney offers three tiers of resorts: Deluxe, Moderate, and Value. All DVC options are part of the Deluxe category, so we like to say you can typically stay at a Deluxe resort for Moderate resort pricing when booking with us. However, I’ve seen some reservations (looking at you Deluxe Studio at Disney’s Old Key West Resort!) that are closer in price to Value resorts depending on the time of year!

Sometimes Disney runs promotions that compete with our average savings of 20-50%. This is a time when you may not save anything additional, and our pricing might be more comparable to Disney’s. If you do find a great deal by booking directly through Disney but would still love to work with our wonderful team, we are Disney Certified Travel Agents and can still assist with helping you book a non-DVC Disney direct reservation.

The grounds of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the Disney Skyliner system are seen from the outdoor terrace atop Disney’s Riviera Resort under a hazy blue sky.

We also understand our booking process is different than Disney’s. For example, we require payment in full within 24 hours of securing your reservation, whereas Disney allows guests to make payments over time. The way I like to think about it, though, is that if you pay for the whole reservation up front, by the time the trip comes around, it’s free! No worries about making payments leading up to the trip; I can relax and focus on planning which rides I’m going to go on and what snacks I’m going to eat.

Besides the whole ‘booking with us can save you a ton of money’ aspect, the other part that makes renting worth it is that your reservation is treated exactly the same as any other Walt Disney World resort reservation. You receive all the same perks like Disney’s transportation to the parks, Early Theme Park Entry, and advance dining and Lightning Lane reservation booking windows. And since you are staying at a Disney Vacation Club Deluxe Resort, you will also get access to Extended Evening Hours when offered on select nights at select parks. For more information on Extended Evening Hours, please see Disney’s website: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_CA/guest-services/extended-evening/

Multicolored fireworks fill the sky over Fantasyland and Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom.

Another reason renting DVC points may be worth it for your family is the room sizes offered. Most resorts will offer Deluxe Studios, One Bedroom Villas, Two Bedroom Villas, and Three Bedroom Grand Villas. Some resorts even offer a Duo Studio/Tower Studio that accommodates up to 2 guests for a more quaint stay. The Two Bedrooms will accommodate 8 or 9 guests depending on the resort, and the Three Bedroom Grand Villas can accommodate up to 12 guests!

These are great for larger parties and families who want their own space while still staying close together. Maybe you need more space and want to book several Studios or One Bedrooms at the same resort; we can help with that! Or maybe it’s the in-unit free laundry and full kitchen available in the One Bedroom, Two Bedroom, and Three Bedroom Grand Villas that works best for you!

Overall, I think renting DVC points is worth it, but as with anything, it’s best to do some research first to see if it works for your vacation plans and needs. Our team is always here to answer any questions you may have along the way!
